Purui Eye Hospital refractive team deepens international exchange and receives multiple awards
More than 150 refractive specialists attended the 3rd EVO ICL APAC Experts Summit. The Purui Eye Hospital team contributed presentations and discussions and received multiple professional honors.
The 3rd EVO ICL APAC Experts Summit
From March 15 to 17, 2024, the 3rd EVO ICL APAC Experts Summit brought together more than 150 refractive specialists from around the world to share research findings and clinical experience on new developments in ICL technology.
A Purui Eye Hospital delegation led by refractive group secretary Guan Nian exchanged views with international experts and clinical teams. Delegates chaired sessions, delivered presentations and discussed new technologies, perspectives and results. The team also received procedure-volume and young-ophthalmologist awards.
Multidimensional exchange supporting ICL research and clinical development
Experts from Asia, Europe and the Americas introduced the development and use of ICL technology in their countries. ICL lenses have been available for more than 30 years, with over two million implantations worldwide, and have become an established option for myopia correction.
As demand for visual quality grows, customized refractive surgery has attracted increasing attention. Guan Nian presented “Correlation Between Intraoperative and Postoperative Vaulting of the EVO ICL Implantable Collamer™ Lens.” He discussed the visual quality, cornea-preserving design, ultraviolet protection, removability and broad correction range of ICL, as well as the role of RESCAN 700 intraoperative OCT in more precise and individualized treatment.
Wu Huiying, an ICL young-expert collaboration award recipient and certified refractive surgeon, presented “Clinical Application of 5,000 EVO ICL Cases — Experience in Low and Moderate Myopia.” Drawing on clinical experience, she discussed the growing use of ICL in low and moderate myopia and emphasized that standardized practice and steady technical development are essential to patient outcomes.
International speakers included Professor Yoshihiro Kitazawa, who contributed to research on the ICL V4C central port, Professor Jong-Ho Lee of Korea and Professor Robert Ang of the Philippines. Zhu Feng, Zhang Hui, Xiao Qirui and Tang Tian joined discussions on clinical applications and future trends.
Multiple awards highlight the work of young ophthalmologists
At the awards dinner, all participating Purui physicians received professional honors recognizing achievements in quality standards and talent development. The awards acknowledged both individual contributions and the international standing of the Purui refractive team.
Deepening external collaboration and promoting ICL development
Professor Zhou Xingtao noted that although more than one thousand Chinese hospitals offered refractive surgery, only several hundred physicians performed ICL procedures. Purui had dozens of doctors certified as EVO ICL surgeons, including experienced high-volume surgeons, while its certified instructor team continued training additional ICL physicians.
ICL implantation is a key refractive procedure across Purui hospitals. Purui and STAAR Surgical have expanded cooperation in clinical application, surgical technique, patient education and standardized training. In 2023, Purui ranked second nationally in overall ICL volume and became a strategic STAAR Surgical partner in China. It also developed academic cooperation with leading public ophthalmic institutions to support refractive-specialty development.
